Unit X: The Exemplary

You open your eyes.

You're staring at a white ceiling.

Your thoughts are dull, memory foggy.

For a while, you remain motionless, attempting to move, but your body fails to respond to your commands. Giving up, you think to yourself, 'Where am I...?'

Just then, the sound of a sliding door interrupts your thoughts. Tilting your head to the side, you spot a beautiful brunette woman in her mid-20s approaching you. Dressed in a white lab coat, she appears to likely be a doctor or scientist.

She walks up to your bed and smiles at you.

"How are you feeling, Roy?" she asks, scanning you from head to toe.

"Who are you... what's going on?" you reply, your words slurring out of your mouth.

She giggles softly before clearing her throat, a subtle attempt to maintain professionalism.

"We'll explain everything shortly. For now, understand that your body may not be responding well to your commands because you've just awoken from cryosleep. You've been asleep for about a year."

"Cryosleep?!?" you respond in a loud voice.

She appears slightly startled but quickly regains composure and nods.

"It may be a lengthy explanation, so I'll have our robot companion fill you in on the situation."

Glancing at her clipboard and then back at you, she turns on her heel and exits the room.

Strangely, you notice what appears to be a blush on her face as she departs.

"Wait, a robot?" you say out loud.

Just then, you hear the sounds of a computer of some sorts booting up across the room. The sounds stop and a futuristic robot glides across the room towards you.

"Yes, a robot. Nice to meet you. I'm DOT, an AI robot developed by the creators of this project to help smooth along this experience. That's D. O. T., aka your Digital Overseer Technician"

"You sound surprisingly human...like a woman almost," you reply as you look DOT up and down.

"I would hope so. A tone feature has been integrated into my system to enhance communication comfort. Additionally, you have the option to adjust my tone to be either masculine or feminine, according to your preference," DOT responds.

"Duly noted....so what's going on DOT...am I just dreaming?" you ask the robot skeptically.

"Nope. You've been chosen to be the primary subject in Project: Breed, a long-term initiative designed to save the human race!" DOT responds cheerfully.
